Faden Quartz starts as grains of quartz in a rock split by earthquakes, and become intricate and beautiful patterns trying to bridge an ever widening fissure deep in the earth.
These represent a very unique geologic phenomena that occurs when certain minerals (apatite, quartz, et al.) grow in a fault zone, as movement continues, here quartz deposition continues to add to a chain of quartz that has deformed and yet fully terminated and brilliant crystals that mend, knit, and augment the broken chain as the earth movements persist.
When uncovered by erosion and mining, these minerals are found in amazing chains, or floater singular compound crystals with nearly unrecognizable habit.

Group of brilliant Quartz xls. detached from country rock that produced these quartz by growth after earthquake activity. With each event the crystals added to chain growth to bridge a fracture in Quartzite. The Himalayas are undergoing uplift to this day, and small earthquakes occur regularly. The rock responds by forming Faden Quartz, Faden is German for "thread. Click

Study in Geology-Faden means thread in German. This specimen has several complete bridges across a vein where the Faden Quartz was repeatedly broken by
earthquakes but healed itself to complete chains of quartz crystals attached to the previous ones. Perfect condition. Displays from many directions. Phots available on request.

Brilliant transparent tabular quartzes rising from thin Quartz lining that was on the fracture of a Quartzite vein caused by earthquakes. Ask us to send our flyer on Faden Quartz. This is a textbook example of classic
Geology while being very aesthetic. click on photo to see larger views.

The best Faden Quartz we have at the moment. This one has a small piece of Quartzite (country rock) at the base (shows on one side) and from there rises in a zig zag shape, an extreme example of healing across a widening fissure by a quartz crystal. Multiple display directions. More Photos on request. We can send you a copy of the Mineralogical Record Faden Quartz article.

Very rare single thread Faden Quartz rising from base which was contacting a fracture in Quartzite created by an earthquake. Subsequent tectonic activity widened the fissure and quartz attempted to bridge the gap, at one point the gap was too wide to make a bridge. Ask us to send you our Faden Quartz information sheet.

Rare matrix specimen consisting of a remnant of quartzite broken into a fissure and lined with faden quartz. All the crystals are terminated. Even underneath there is a section of smaller crystals pointing down. Miraculous that this was recently mined in a strife ridden border area between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Two very interesting chains of growth on this Faden. Faden means thread in German. A Faden Quartz grows between two walls of a fissure cause by an tremor in a developing mountain range. With each quake the Quartz reacts with a healing segment to complete the bridge between the two walls. Here there is a very thin curving harpoon-like chain barely connected to
