Faden Quartz starts as grains of quartz in a rock split by earthquakes, and become intricate and beautiful patterns trying to bridge an ever widening fissure deep in the earth.
These represent a very unique geologic phenomena that occurs when certain minerals (apatite, quartz, et al.) grow in a fault zone, as movement continues, here quartz deposition continues to add to a chain of quartz that has deformed and yet fully terminated and brilliant crystals that mend, knit, and augment the broken chain as the earth movements persist.
When uncovered by erosion and mining, these minerals are found in amazing chains, or floater singular compound crystals with nearly unrecognizable habit.

Curved branching Faden quartz, floater. We can send you the Mineralogical Record article on Faden Quartz, to understand the miracle of nature that these crystals are.
Formed high in the Himalayas fissures forming underground during earthquakes, these crystals were stressed and/or broken repeatedly and grew across fissures, forming a bridge the widening gap filled with hot solutions. The c axis

Study in Geology-Faden means thread in German. This specimen has several complete bridges across a vein where the Faden Quartz was repeatedly broken by
earthquakes but healed itself to complete chains of quartz crystals attached to the previous ones. Perfect condition. Displays from many directions. Phots available on request.

Rare matrix specimen consisting of a remnant of quartzite broken into a fissure and lined with faden quartz. All the crystals are terminated. Even underneath there is a section of smaller crystals pointing down. Miraculous that this was recently mined in a strife ridden border area between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The best Faden Quartz we have at the moment. This one has a small piece of Quartzite (country rock) at the base (shows on one side) and from there rises in a zig zag shape, an extreme example of healing across a widening fissure by a quartz crystal. Multiple display directions. More Photos on request. We can send you a copy of the Mineralogical Record Faden Quartz article.
